Precautionary Step by CBIC after an explosion incident in Beirut Warehouse
In an incident of an explosion in Beirut, at least 100 people have been killed and 3,700 injured in the horrific blasts on Tuesday in the Lebanese capital of Beirut. The Health Ministry of Lebanon has confirmed the deaths of at least 100 people. Health Minister Hamad Hasan has described the horrific accident as a 'disaster' for the country and warned that the death toll could increase significantly.
That 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate had been kept inside the warehouse for 6 years. It was to be used to make manure. Lebanese President Michael Aoun wrote on Twitter that stern action would be taken against those possessing 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate without security arrangements. After this horrific explosion, the entire city of Beirut was seen as a disaster. The explosion was so huge that its effect was seen up to 1.5 km away. It is being told that two such blasts have taken place here, one in the Port area and one inside the city.
In respect of such incident, CBIC has urgently directed Customs and field formations to immediately verify and confirm within 48 hours that any hazardous and explosive material lying in warehouse and ports across the country meets all safety and fire standards and presents no danger to life and property, Thus Precautionary step has been taken in view of the recent incident of an explosion in a foreign country caused by such material.
